Remington came into my life when he was 6 weeks old, and as most Labs do he was overly mischievous and what he didn't chew he otherwise destroyed. One day I came home to find he had chewed my 15' cherry tree to the ground. But he quickly learned and became a gentle friend to my cat. Remington liked to play ball, run and jump in lakes, and would insist anyone around him also played ball. He would drop the most slobbery tennis balls in anyone's lap to make sure they knew he wanted to play. It didn't matter who it was: the plumber or the UPS man, Remington would put the tennis balls right in their crotch to make sure they threw the ball for him. He could jump straight up 6 feet or more in the air and catch balls with no problem. We had four wonderful years and then Remi started having problems. He would scratch nonstop and his hair started to thin. Four vets and two trips to a dermatology specialist and Remi was still no better. In the summer of 2009 I brought a new friend for Remington home when Haley the Newfoundland joined us. She and Remi would play tug for hours and otherwise chase and play together. In the fall of 2009 my cat died, and Remi was there as my teddy bear to support me in any way he could. Unfortunately, in the winter of 2009, Remington started going downhill gradually and no vet knew why. I began to notice he just wasn't himself; and where he used to take me for walks, he no longer could really keep up. In the spring, Remi's health really went downhill, and he was eventually diagnosed with lymphosarcoma. I had to make the most heartbreakingly difficult decision to say goodbye to my most wonderful and loyal friend on May 17, 2010. My life will never be the same without Remington. I take some sort of comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering and I hope he knew how very much he was loved.

My Mom had always been terrified of all dogs. Well, Remi was so gentle and sweet natured that when she asked him to give her a kiss, he'd always walk over and lick her gently on her cheek. On that last day of his life, even though he was sick and had been very ill for a few days, she asked him for a kiss. And he tried. He tried. My family will forever remember Remington as the most loving, loyal, good natured, and all-around wonderful dog we'll ever know.
