I'm wondering if there should be a window where you are
You're probably waiting patiently to greet each passing car
In hopes that one might bring a friend returning from afar

So where are you now?
Are you howlin' right out loud?
Are you runnin' down the trails you ran when you were just a pup
Lookin' back to see if I am able to keep up?
There never was a kinder, truer friend

Sometimes your tail would spin around instead of to and fro
And when you drank your ears would hang inside the water bowl
You'd need a bath sometimes because you'd stop, drop, and roll
There's still a lot of mischief in your soul.
You're such a happy feller
Such a carefree pup
With your tail like a propeller does it hold your back end up?

So say hello to friends you know, the ones who went before
They're waiting for you quietly, just beyond the door.
There's gentle hugs and fluffed-up rugs and woodland walks galore
And belly rubs, 'cause that's what friends are for.
There's Gram and Gramp and Rosie, just to name a few
Larry Hull and Liney, even Dixie-dog's there, too
