Coco Mundi was rescued when she was 8 weeks old at NHS in Omaha, Nebraska,by her mom whom she chose;Brooke Schmidt. In Coco's early years, she loved help raising and herding her brothers and sisters. She also enjoyed chasing squirrels(black squirrel's were her favorite) In 2004 Coco became a certified therapy dog, and enjoyed making her rounds putting smiles on faces of the sick and elderly at nursing homes and also various local rescue events. Coco was everyone's favorite, but Coco also had a favorite, her mom! She never left her side, in fact Coco used to go to work with her also, they were unseperable. Coco and her mom were best friends, true to each other no matter what, they enjoyed shopping for new necklaces, and receiving mani- pedi's. Coco's favorite thing to do was go through the drivethru for a cheeseburger and fries. She had a thing with food,she LOVED ALL OF IT! During the winter she loved having snow ball fights, and opening her presents. (All by herself) In spring, she showed over excitement waiting for their annual easter egg hunt! (She would always find the most) During the summer she would enjoy the dog days of summer by sharing ice cream with her furbrothers and sisters. In 2010 Coco developed an injury,causing many problems to her hips and legiments. Although many doctor's said her limp and leg use would one day cause major limits in her life,Coco persevered every time. Coco's will was so song, nothing would keep her down, when she chose her mom that day at the rescue, she chose her forever, she believed her job was to never let her mom down, and that she never ever did! She was the smartest furkid in the world, the modern day Lassie. She was simply perfect,amazing and irreplaceable.During these last few months Coco's health started to detiriate. Her hearing was shallow, her eyesight was grim, her legs were failing her, but she was resilient. She, herself was just not ready. During this time Doctor's told Brooke there will soon come limited options for Coco, and the medicine will soon not work for her anymore. The doctors were amazed at Coco's age and how well her overall happiness was. Coco and Brooke had many talks over the years, but these talks became a little more serious here recently. Coco promised her mom, even though she never wanted to leave her, she will let her know when it's time. In return Brooke promised Coco no matter how selfish she wanted to be, and keep Coco forever, she would never allow her to suffer.
This day approached quickly, they had three days of each others undivided attention, lots of conversation, kisses and hugs and belly rubs. Coco woke her mom up early Saturday morning with kisses and crying, Her mom knew right away, what that meant. It was time. Although Brooke fought herself all morning, she couldn't break her promise to her baby girl. With her tail wagging on her on last truck ride, and neverending kisses, neither wanted it to end. Head to head and hand to paw Coco, her mom, and family and friends, said goodbye until her last breath. Coco was one of her mom's best experiences of maternal love. They are all blessed to have been loved by such a sweet beautiful, charming, furbaby. They will miss her dearly, but will meet again as they promised each other.
