Patch, you were the definition of mans best friend.

Nickname: Patch, Patchy

Patch was my best friend. He and I practically grew up together, we got him when he was under a year and I was six. We got him from a family friend who was giving away dachshund puppies. When I first saw him I knew I was going to love him with everything I had, even if he made me angry (cause when this pup was young, he LOVED chewing on everything he could sink his teeth into). But growing up with this pup, I wouldn't change anything or trade a day with him. We had lots of fun together from long walks to watching football, from playing in the yard and sleeping in bed. Whenever I had a bad day, Patch knew and he would always find a way to cheer me up. I went through several months of clinical depression in high school, everything seemed to be crashing down, but when I got home I'd always find some happiness whenever I'd see and hold Patch. He was my ray of sunshine through the clouds.
I always smile when I think about how he would always follow me into the kitchen and look at me with those puppy dog eyes, and it always got me, so I'd give him a treat or two. He never discriminated on a treat but I found he favored anything bacon. Maybe I got too generous with the treats but hey, I'd spoil that pup any day of the week. Also I don't know how much money was spent on toys with squeakers. And those things would last about fifteen minutes before I found stuffing all over the house and Patch chewing on the squeaker. Crazy dog, but I love him nonetheless.
I could go on for days about sharing stories and memories about me and Patch, but the ones I'll always keep in my heart are just the times we would lay on the couch or floor and Patch would always cuddle next to me (and fall asleep sometimes). It's the time where it's just he and I, and he would walk on me, lick my face a couple times and roll over between me and the couch and knock out.
Fourteen of my twenty years I spent with Patches, almost 3/4 of my life. I've never had a more loyal friend and companion in my life. He taught me a lot meaningful lessons I'll never forget. The thing I most regret is moving out and leaving him and not being there for his final days. I always cherished seeing him, whether on vacation or over FaceTime. We really grew up together, like brothers. I'm really going to miss seeing him walking through the door or laying in the grass. He is the true definition of mans best friend, and they'll never be another like him. I hope you forgive me not being with you and know you hold a special place in my heart. I hope you enjoy puppy dog heaven. I love and miss you.
