The sweetest dog ever!

Nickname: Doober-dog

I always wanted a Standard Poodle so I did some research on the breed ... called the local shelter in PA and they just happened to have on (a red) that had been there for a month. She was only 1 year old and had been abused for that first year of her life. This dog was so sweet, yet so damaged. We figured it had been a man that abused her because she wouldn't go near men. Every time my husband walked into the room, she'd either squat and pee or hide behind me. :'( She didn't know how to play, or how to even be a dog. Even with me, I'd get down on the floor to play with her and she'd go as far into the other room and hide behind whatever she could fit behind. I really worked with her to let her know not all people are mean ... finally, after 5 years, she came around. She was the BEST dog I had ever had. And she learned to love my husband and all men! She loved the snow, loved to just sit and watch squirrels and she played with a tennis ball and baby blanket to hide the ball. She was great with kids, cats and other dogs. To this day I still miss her, she was my shadow. I just wish I had better photos of her. She lived to be 15 and that was the saddest day ever for me. I know she's up there watching over us and playing with all the other dogs and critters. Until we meet again, my sweet Dubonay.
