I received a phone call at work one night and my wife said that her and the kids had gone and looked at boxer puppies. I never thought my wife would allow a dog in the house! The next day we all went and looked, and I said ok , but, I get to pick the puppy. Emma was my choice. And a damned fine one if I do say so!
As Emma grew she developed allergies to everything it seemed. We had to give her 2 shots every 2 weeks to try to keep the itching under control. She was the hit at every ballgame we took her to. She loved everyone and everyone loved her! I used to tell my wife that if anyone ever broke into our house, Emma would knock them down and lick them to death! She loved to give lovins!
Last November she developed a hematoma on one of her ears,was having some issues with her eyes being red and bloodshot all the time, so we took her to the vet, and they did laser eye surgery and removed a couple skin tags and the hematoma while she was there.
About a month later she developed some difficulties breathing, the vet said her nasal passages were swollen and preventing air from entering and exiting, so they did an exploratory surgery, CT scan, and took some tissue samples. After the radiologist and pathologist reports were in, all tests were negative for masses or bone damage. So we tried prednisone and it seemed to be working, Emma was her old playful self again! But, that only lasted for about a week and a half, then the breathing became labored again and was getting worse, she could not sleep at all, so we scheduled a date for surgery to correct the nasal swelling by "roto rootering out her nasal passages. This was on a friday, and surgery couldn't be done till monday, so, she went for 3 days with little to no sleep. She was so very tired that she litterally fell asleep standing up and fell over, it was so scary to watch. Finally, Monday came, my wife dropped her off at the vet hospital and we were to pick her up that evening. Mommy called around 3:30 to check on our baby and they said she was still in surgery, so far so good, then a little after 4;00 the vet called and told us that Emma had passed away on the operating table. Her heart had stopped and they tried cardiac massage and every drug they had to revive her for 30 minutes but her heart just would not start back up again. The doctor was so upset, he couldn't hardly look at us when we got there to see Emma one last time. I could tell he had been crying. He did everything he could for our little girl and we appreciate that. We are currently waiting to get her ashes back and she will always have a prominent place in our home.
Emma, we love you very much and miss you very badly!! RIP Emma girl, you are in doggy heaven waiting for us, and we can't wait to see you again.
