Misty was my loving faithful companion for 12 years. I miss her beyond words.

Nickname: Mama's Baby, Mama's Misty

I sometimes call Misty My accidental dog. You see I had a little Yorkie named Mandy for eleven years who liked to ride around in my wheelchair with me. Mandy died on 1/4/97. I didn't think I would ever want another dog, but a year went by and I knew it was time, so I set out to find another little dog that would like to take the ride with me. One day My husband saw an ad in the paper for Papillons, I thought that would be great they're little so I called the family and off we went, in the back yard of the home were two Papillon puppies a male and a female but I wanted a female so I didn't have much of a choice. For one thing she was a little bigger then I wanted but she was three months old so I thought maybe she won't grow to much more. Little did I know. Needless to say Misty had a few flaws, at one point she was over 15 pounds, and her tongue didn't fit in her mouth, but that was okay because I had a few flaws of my own. When I first picked her up she looked in my eyes and then put her head on my shoulder and I just new she was the friend I was looking for.
When I first put Misty in my wheelchair and started to move she was a little afraid but she soon overcame her fear and it became one of her favorite places to be, and somehow she learned to walk under my chair between the back wheels and stay right in the center and never get rolled on. to this day I don't know how she did it. I know it sounds funny but this dog loved it when I would sing to her, she would just sit and listen. Oh yeah, she was also a great spider killer, all I would have to do was say "Misty Spider" and she would come running and pounce on it, she was my Hero many a day. She was also super smart, as an example, one day when she was eating her dinner her bowl kept sliding on the tile floor, all of a sudden she picked up the bowl and put it on the carpet so it would hold still. All I could think of is what kind of thought process went through her head that she would know that the bowl wouldn't slide on the carpet. She was an amazing little dog.
July,2009 Misty developed a bad cough we took her to the vet. After some testing we got the bad news. Misty had an enlarged heart, a collapsed trachea and a tumor in her lung.
Because of her age and the condition of her heart their was nothing we could do but try keep her comfortable, and make the most of the time we had left. On the night of June 6 Misty was having trouble breathing, I sat up with her all night. At dawn I put Misty next to me in my wheelchair and we went out on the deck I stroked her while we watched the sun come up.We stayed there until my husband and sister got up. Misty died one hour later. It's been three months, and I still miss her so much. Misty never wanted me to be upset so I'm trying to stop the tears but it's hasn't happened yet, and does my wheelchair feel empty.
