Nickname: Sweetheart, Daddy's Little Girl, Baby Girl

Maggie lived life to the fullest. She was never able to play as much as she wanted because her weakened heart tired her out faster than her brother, Oliver. She was born with a genetic heart defect called sub-aortic stenosis, or SAS. She was originally given 1 1/2 years to live, but thanks to her medications (Atenolol, Spironolact, and Mexiletine) she almost made it to 4 1/2.

She was the only dog I ever knew who could climb trees, and she loved going hunting and chasing birds and squirrels. She got arrested for playing a little too viciously at the park and we needed to display a "Beware of Dog" sign. Come on, look at that little face...

She was the pack leader at the house, and Oli was always 2 steps behind her. Whenever they played tug of war or fought over the same toy or bone, she always won because she could outsmart him.

She was a great at cuddling when she chose to be (generally after you were late getting up for work) but she was very strong willed and independent. She showed affection on her own terms, and if she was busy doing something else, you had to wait.

I'll always picture her cuddled up into a little ball in front of the fireplace, or snuggled right next to us on the couch with her soft chin resting on one of our laps looking up at us with those deep brown eyes. Looking into those eyes, you could always tell the wheels were turning. She was always thinking about something important.

Baby girl, it's been almost a week and I miss you so much. Your soft fur and precious kisses always gave me the boost I needed when I was down. I loved holding you and protecting you; I wish I could hold you and protect you now. God I loved you and I never showed it enough. You'll always be daddy's little girl.

Hi sweetheart, its been a month since you left us and the hole in my heart is slowly starting to heal. I still miss seeing you waiting for me at the door when I get home, standing on two legs so I can pick you up and hold you like a baby. Oliver still pokes his head around the house looking for you, and he is timid to go out into the back yard without your guidance. We received your ashes and paw print from Danielle, who misses you as much as we do. I will always cherish the paw prints you left on our hearts. Sleep well, baby girl, until I can hold you once again. Love, Daddy.

Merry Christmas baby girl. Mommy and Daddy still hung your stocking this year. I wish we could have given you one last toy. Oliver misses you when he's outside playing in the snow; I'll always remember taking you to the park and watching you two slide around the ice rink together. Stay warm sweetheart; we'll never forget you.

Happy New Year Sweetheart. Today its been 2 months since you left us but it seems like yesterday. Thank you for everything you taught us about love, patience, and understanding.

Its been 6 months since you left us, sweetheart. I had a dream about you last night, and I could still smell you and feel your soft fur as you snuggled with me. Mommy and Oli miss you as well.
