Nickname: Pato, Pato Bonton
As a puppy, Pato was abandoned at a high school football field. Our 15 year-old-son brought home this adorable ball of fur. We couldn't resist the little ball of fur or the, "Can we keep him?? PLEASE?!" He ended up staying with us and became much more than a pet, but a real member of our family; a much loved family member. The kids grew up, left home and Pato was there. The kids came back home with spouses and grandkids and Pato was still there. The kids and grandkids thought he was a pony at times, riding on his back and he never complained. Nothing set him off, made him mad and he never bit or snarled at anyone. He tolerated cats, even kittens who thought he was their mother! He was always there for each of us whenever we needed him. He went on family trips with us and had a unique personality, just like each of us. He was so special and he will never be forgotten by any of us. At 17, the bone cancer that broke his leg was just too much. With all the kids gone, Rod & I had to take him to the vet. Neither of us will forget that day when we held him in our arms and told him how much we loved him until he closed his eyes for the last time. We cried for days and still think of him a lot. I still cry a lot. He was so unique. He could actually smile, not a pet grimace, but a smile: especially if we had been gone and we walked in the house when he greeted us. He would smile to tell us he loved us and was happy we were home. He was our confidant, our best friend, a true joy to our family. Neighbors, friends and other family members loved him to because he was so special. We know we will see him again in the next life and he will be smiling at us as he greets us.
