I really have so much to say, I just don't know where to start.
Our story of adopting our LuckyDuckers :
I've always been an animal lover ever since i could talk. When i was about 3 years old (I am 15 now), my mom and i were walking through a market, and she had told me, "if you're a good girl, i'll bring you over by the doggies." The market had a section where they put rescued animals up for adoption. After making sure i had been a good girl, she brought me over to see the dogs. I looked in a cage, and told my mom that I wanted "that one". His name was Lucky. His hair had been matted when he arrived at the shelter, so they had to shave him down. (Mind you, this poor thing was about 13 pounds all of his life.) Despite how he looked, i was determined to adopt him. My mom said we had to go home first to talk to daddy, and maybe we could get him. We went home, and called my dad, and he said, "absolutely not." I replied, "please daddy? He's the best doggie in the whole wide weild! (world)". After I had said that, he agreed to let me get him. The next day, my mom and i had gone back to the market to adopt Lucky. While we were in the middle of filling out the papers, another family called asking for Lucky. The lady had told them he was being adopted as we speak. To make it official, the lady said she needed to call my dad to ask him, too, if it was okay to adopt. My mom was hoping that he hadn't changed his mind. When she hung up, the lady had said my dad agreed. We took him home, and my grandfather's first words were, "you adopted a rat?", being sarcastic, as always.

Over the years, Lucky had always been there for me. Whether i was sick and needed someone to cuddle with, or if i was upset and just needed a hug, Lucky never failed to be there. My mom claims, if she could take out a second mortgage, she would clone him, no doubt about it. Whenever we would hold him, his favorite position to lay was cradled like a baby, and he would like you to pet his chest, and he would hold your hands between his paws. Lucky duckers had a strong grip because he would never let go of my hands. (=
My baby was just so flawless. Whenever he had to either throw up, or go to the bathroom, he would never go anywhere else except for the tile floor. If he wanted to come inside, he wouldn't bark non-stop; he would tap the door. Anyone he had ever met absolutely loved him, and when my family members had found out he passed away, even they cried. He was never just a pet. He was a friend, or a family member to everyone.

How our LuckyDuckers was taken from us:
Over the years, Lucky started to just get old. He had a cateract in one eye develop, and eventually, his other eye just went. He became almost deaf in both of his ears. For a good few years he had manage to live like this. He could find his way around the house with a little struggle, but he was still our Lucky. He really just passed away from old age. He was perfectly healthy.
One day, Lucky had struggled with standing up. My mom knew it was close to his time. When I got home from school, she had told me, "I think you should hold Lucky for a while and comfort him." I picked him up, went over to the couch and just reminisced about the past years for 6 hours. I asked my mom to call my grandmother, who was in Florida for a babyshower, and to tell her that Lucky wasn't right. (My grandma and Lucky were extremely close.) That day, Lucky had started to lose his grip on my hands when I pet him. He was extremely weak. I put him down to go shower and get ready for bed, because I had school the next day. Around 10, I layed down, (which was early for me), and my mom called me downstairs to bring lucky outside, and to somehow hold him upwards to help him go to the bathroom. As I picked him up, his head had dropped, then he picked it up again, and then it dropped once more. Lucky was dieing. I knew this was it. I sat down on my kitchen floor, cradling him, trying to remind him of how much I loved him, by yelling to him of how much he means to me, with the little hearing he had left. He kept twitching, and his stomach was moving, and his mouth dropped open. Lucky was gone. My best friend, the one who had stuck through it all with me, was gone. I didn't know what to do with myself. I felt like half of my heart was gone. Like, nothing was right; at all. After holding him for a couple hours, i had set him down in his bed, with my mom, dad, and sister watching me, I stood up, and just watched him from afar. My grandma had knocked on the door, came in, and saw my eyes swelled up, and whispered, "is he gone?" and all i could manage to do was nod my head. Her eyes teared up, and my grandmother had given me the strongest hug I have ever gotten from her. She was just as devastated as I was. Ever since then, i've been having random moments where I just wish he would come back. I miss my luckyduckers so much, it's unbelieveable. I remember my mom telling me a couple months before this all happened, that i had to start preparing myself for it. But never could I prepare myself for so much heart break, even if i had years in advance.

People keep asking me if i'm ready to adopt a new dog, but I just feel as though the dog would be a stranger in my house. They would have extremely high expectations to live up to, and I just feel like no other dog could live up to them. They say his name was Lucky, but I feel like, WE were the "lucky" ones.
