I adopted her from the City of Orange Shelter. They found her on the streets. She was dirty and riddled with flea poop and ear mites. There wasn't an instant connection as I had visualized, but someghing tugged at my heart. I just wanted to get her out of there. I quickly learned just how good of an escape artist she was. 17 lbs and a spine like Gumby. Luckily I was able to block every possible point of exit around the back deck. Mornings were especially fun. She would wait patiently until I started to stir, then I'd see this furry lttle face bopping up and down next to my bed. If it was a Sat or a Sun, she got to snuggle in bed with me for a few winks. If it was a work day, she got breakfast right away, then time to watch mommy do her Yoga or Pilates. She enjoyed Pilates the most as she got to ride on my tummy while I worked legs (my hands were free to hold her). It was like having a medicine ball on my abs. Her stubby little tail would wag non-stop. Lula quickly became everyone's angel. She got along with all neighbors, both human and canine. We both looked forward to PetSmart Doggy Day Camp on Tuesdays (the day the landscapers worked - too much temptation to stay outside and bark all day). Her report card usually read something like "Lula really got the party started today". She would get all the other dogs to chase her. Whenever she retreated to the corner for a rest, the other dogs would wait patiently, ready for her to start running again. Training was truly going well. Sit was easy, Heel took longer, Quiet evern longer. I was most impressed when I got her to stay while I exited the back door into the garage. I never thought I had to practice this when in the presence of my boyfriend. For whatever reason, last Saturday, when I was leaving with Randy, all training went out the door. More sadly, the garage door was open. She made a B-line into the street just as a Fedex truck was coming. The driver didn't see her. Unfortunately I saw everything, and now I cannot enter or exit my garage without crying my eyes out. Two months with Ms. Lula was much too short. I was wripped off and I don't think I'll ever understand why. I am trying to remain strong and I am really struggling. Maybe this will help. Lula - enjoy getting to know your big sister Gracie! I'll always treasure our time together. I love you.
