Cody was a little guy from the SPCA. A family had returned him, saying he had a bad temper. On our first night together, he bit me on the lip. I had crossed an unknown line with him. This was not his fault. I leaned in to close. I quietly pulled back and apologized to him. I knew then that a gentle touch was needed and that trust would come. I was never bit again and he loved me fully and trusted me unconditionally.
Cody Dakota..was what I named him. I thought a little guy with such baggage needed a big name. He would walk behing me with a special Cody sassy-ness. His front paws all most lifted in rotating circles nearly crossing in front of each other. He would just move along at a snail's pace, smelling deeply this and that. He became known as Cody the special invitation dog. He needed a little encouragement to get move on. But, if you shook a cheerio's cereal box within ear range... out of know where, he would be running like hell to reach you. So funny.
He was also a piddler. He would just piddle here and there. I came to know his favorite indoor spots. After years, he all most had the whole piddle pad thing down. He just couldn't help himself. Two year before I met him.. .messed him up for sure. So, I just coped. No use, hollering, or scolding. He certainly understood guilt, that was clear, and I just wanted him to have a happy home. So what's a few cody piddle spots in the house?? It's just pee.
He loved to be picked up and he would stretch his entire body out with his front two paws nearly wrapped around your neck. He just love a big bear hug.
Two dogs gone in two years. I'm tired.
