Nickname: Big Dog or Buddy

A long time ago, in a far off land, a friend and lover said she wanted to get a Pekingnese...that she had grown up with Peke's as pet's. When we went to see a litter of puppies, we were told that they sold for $800.00 a piece...but since the dam died during a C section, the owner did not expect them to live. After some haggling, we brought Derringer home with us. He was Pitch Black, and tiny enought to fit on one hand. Since I was working out at a gym, I suggested that we feed Derringer some of the high protien drink mix I used with milk.

At first, I looked at Derringer as a noisy, little ankle biter, good for not much. But since mt Lady had two son's to care for, I would feed Derringer with an eye dropper every evening after work...well a few year's later, and a newborn affection, for the lovable, and highly intelligent Pekingnese, or "Peke's", as their refered to, I wound up with two of my own...all related to Derringer in one form or another.

Well, Piddles was the very first one born, an off white, with the smoky gray, and black streaks of a wolf's coat....to this day I have never seen another with her beautiful marking's! Since I had sat up with her mother, Lady,in an open garage, with 3 feet of snow on the ground, and more falling, all night, I got first pick. Piddles was a Breach baby...and as soon as Lady started to howl, I yelled for my lady to come help...and she did!...she took one look, and with her finger, she "Popped" out Piddles, and problem solved! A year and a half later came Kahless. A Fawn, Tri Colored male, who had the sweetest disposition. My Lady started calling him "Sweet Boy"...it fit!

Year's went by, and my Lady and I had parted...two divorces, having everything, and losing everything, I managed to keep my "Kid's"...Time has finally caught up to us....Yesterday at 10:32pm, on March 8th, 2011, Kahless died in his sleep. Piddles stayed by his side for the entire day, laying in her bed, almost nose to nose with Kahless. She knows...

....and soon I will have to bury another one of my children....Piddles and Kahless have never been seperated for more than a few day's...except for this, they have spent their entire lives together! We as human's are rarely capable of such devotion. But being a devoted couple, and true to their breed, I expect to have to bury her soon. For as much as my heart is broken, the absence of Kahless, and Piddles broken heart, will be the death of her...and when I bury her, I will be alone....

I cannot prove their ages, and I really do not care if anyone believes me or not...only God himself could have blessed me, to be fortunate enough to have them so long...Better "Friend's" you will never find, than a devoted four legged one! They always listened, but never judged me...or ever complained...just to look into those intelligent, caring, devoted eye's, and even the worst, seemed a little better...

As some of you may have guessed, Kahless is a name of the Klingon Emporer, from Star Trek....as a "Klingon" fan, and a member of KAG, the Klingon Assault Group, when he was born, I named him "Kahless"! He truly had a regal air about him, as if to say, "Look at me...Royalty"...and the sweetest disposition of any dog I've ever known.

But in the Klingon mythos, there is a favorite saying, "....a Warrior should not out live his children...."

I have jumped from military aircraft and earned my Jump Wing's...I have worn the badge of a Department of Defense Police Officer....I have been shot, blown up, and run over....and I have survived... Through all the high's and low's I have survived... but I honestly did not expect to out live my "Children"...today I bury my best friend, Kahless...and the world is a little darker and colder...and soon, Piddles will join Kahless....

...and as to myself, what happens next, as to another favorite Klingon saying, ......................

"...I do not care...."
