Sophie was our golden angel who loved everyone and everyone loved her.

Sophie came to us in 1997 when we were not looking for a dog. She was the last of a litter of 9 and didn't have a home. We took her from a friend and she instantly bonded with the terrier we had at the time and everyone in the house. My first grandson was born six months after we got her and she bonded with him immediately. Other dogs loved her, kids loved her, and we could never walk without getting stopped at least a few times so folks on the street could pet her. She understood so many words I had to change what I said fairly often and then she learned words I spelled and I can only assume it was because of my actions after I spelled the words. We walked every night no matter how cold or hot and she could easily walk 2 miles or more every night of the week. The only thing that kept us in was rain as she hated to get wet. When we walked, if she didn't want to go the direction I was going she would stop and look at me. I would ask her which way she wanted to go at the corner and she would look different directions and then look at me and look at the direction she wanted to go. She would nose bump me when she needed something. I would go through the list asking her if she needed water, to go out, a treat, or dinner. When I said whatever it was she wanted she would back up and shake her head to let me know I said whatever it was she wanted. She loved our trips to the park and going to picnics. She would lay beside my weight bench when I worked out, beside the shower when I was there, and follow beside the lawn mower when I cut the grass. She kept me company everywhere and did everything she could with me. When her arthritis in her back legs got so bad she could not go up the steps to follow me to bed, she taught herself how to climb the steps backwards to get to the bedroom. Sophie was the most incredible dog I ever had. Unbelievably smart, very energetic, and loyal beyond anything I ever experienced. She was my rock. We all truly miss her. My wife wanted her when I didn't and if I would have won that argument I would have missed out on 13 1/2 incredible years. I love her and miss her so much. She was a golden angel.
