Kona had arthritis her whole life and the past few years we couldn't walk her much at all. Her exercise was chasing her little brother Bali in the yard. The last few weeks, her breathing had become erratic and we knew her time was limited. Saturday we, out of the blue, decided to wash up the doggie beds and give them good baths - it was sunny and seemed like a great idea. My son and I spent time washing her and giving her lots of scratches. We laughed as she threw herself into her bed to try and get the water out of her ears.
Easter Sunday we couldn't find her and followed her hard breathing into a corner of the garage. She did not look well and so we got her to stand and shuffle to the front grass - she LOVED rolling in the grass. We laid with her for 30-40 minutes and scratched her and cuddled with her and she really calmed down. Then, she just leaned over on me and took one last big breath. It was a sweet and calm passing.
Kona will be missed greatly and we plan to spoil her brother Bali endlessly.
