Nickname: Cassie
Cassie was my fourth poodle and, although all of them were special, Cassie was different. She was 4 months old when I got her, and, she melted my heart right from the beginning. Through the years, she melted the heart of anyone who knew her. She loved people, even the vet, and would inevitably wag her tail and try to jump out of the car when we arrived in his parking lot. Of course, part of that was the reception she got there.....the office staff battled for who was going to carry Cassie back to the examination room! One day when I went to pick her up, she was sitting in the lap of the receptionist while she did her work. But, no matter how much she loved them, she always was thrilled to see ME!
She liked to snuggle. She would ask to sit on my lap and then put her head on my shoulder and cuddle. She seemed to need to do this two or three times a day...then she was off and running again. She had a lot of obedience training because she loved the trainer and the classes. She was always sweet to the other dogs and the trainer used her to demonstrate a lot....not because she was the best (although she was very good), but because she was the most willing. And, she never let her trainer down.
Cassie never let anyone down. She was my best friend for 15 years. She was the same age as my granddaughter and they spent much time together. She loved my daughters and my brother whom she rarely saw, but, still, he was 'family.' Family, for Cassie, was everything. Her breeder took care of her if I was gone. The breeder said she always was the leader.....trying to get in someone's lap BEFORE the others, but always gentle with the puppies. Cassie had not one mean bone in her body.
Obedience was second nature to Cassie. She loved being obedient and she loved compliments. Being told she was beautiful, brilliant or good was music to her ears. When I said one of those words to her, she would always pat me on the face with her paw. As sick as she was on the last day of her life, she always tried to go downstairs to her paper to potty. She had a mind of her own and sometimes she persisted on little things, but when she knew i was serious, she was serious.
I've had dogs all my life, but Cassie was different. She loved life, she loved people, she loved dogs, and she loved me. And, I loved her more than anything. I will never forget her and the joy she brought to so many, but most especially to me. Thank you, Cassie, for being part of my life for so long. I will never forget you.
