Tex....you will Forever Remain in Our Hearts.........

Nickname: Big Tex

Tex was born in 1994 and was actually purchased from a German Shepherd Breeder when he was just a few months old. He was a beautiful white German Shepherd pup and he won me over. He was strong willed from the very beginning. Not long after bringing him home he was runned over on his right hind leg. Tex endured surgery and survived. The doctors informed me that during his senior years he would suffer from arthritis due to the surgery. I didn't worry too much because he was just a pup and he had a long way to go before becoming a "Senior". As soon as he recovered he learned to fetch ball and he loved the sport. He learned to catch footballs in mid-air and the longer and higher you threw the ball the more he enjoyed it. He had a keen eye for any ball that came his way. He could easily play for hours if allowed. He was so sweet ....so kind-hearted.....and loveable. Tex was very loyal and never wimpered or complained. When he went through ear surgery he remained brave throughout the several doctor follow-up visits which were pretty rough on him. Three years ago his right hind leg started to really give him trouble and the vet prescribed Carprofen for the arthritis. Most recent the medication lost it's effect and Tex walked mostly on his front legs. I didn't know he was in pain...he didn't show any signs of pain....just tiredness. I thought that was part of his old age. He was tired but didn't want to give up. He was so strong each and every day. I helped him get around and I didn't want to let him go, but this past Saturday the decision was made to let him go because I didn't want to see him suffer through his last breath. I preferred to let him go peacefully and with all the family members present. It was the hardest decision I've ever had to make. He got lots of kisses and tender good-byes.....we shed lots of tears knowing that our sweet Tex would no longer be with us. Tex had such a strong presence about him...... while caring for him these past couple of years due to his arthritis he taught me patience, to love him unconditionally, and compassion. I knew I always cared for him and loved him, but I never realized I could love a pet as I would a family member until I spent every day helping him get through his day. The loss and the grief is undescribable......His family will miss him tremendously. He will forever remain in our hearts.
