I am 17 years old and this is the story of a little puppy name Poncho, it was my brother and dad's dog and i took care of it over the summer while my brother was away. I remember the first time i seen him, it was on my way to go see my dad when he picked me up. He introduced me to poncho and i seen him as a little baby, he was small and his eyes were bright , he had that spark. He layed on me and the way he slept was priceless. He would curl up with his head touching his stomach, very funny looking. Weeks past and it was like to take poncho to my home to take care of him, i remember when he arrived he looked confused and he looked at me and sat right on me, i was just looking at him like wow, he looks like a little baby. I remember that night it was time for bed and he slept right on my face, moving to my stomach then to my head. He was a crazy little thing, from that day i knew i just loved him. Days past and the connection i had with him was just like a movie, we would play, just go crazy, every night he would run in circles when i tried to chase him, it took me forever just to get poncho, he was like a bullet haha. Months past and i knew i didnt want to let him go, at all! I became so attached to him. I remember days when my mom and I would go to the store for a couple of hours and when we came home he would see us and literally jump up and go crazy like he havent seen us in years. That would always happen, everytime, all the time. He would do things like go outside and just sit out by the door and look into the sky, or grab things from outside and bring them him. He had a collection of things under my moms bed. lol. There was a day where we left and look us with us, and he put his head out the window for the first time looking like he just loved life and he looked so happy. Just about a week ago i came home from the store after buying things for him like dog food, and all the supplies for him. He looked weak and i thought nothing of it. A day pasted and he looked sick, he had vomited and didnt eat. I wanted to take him to the vet and thought to myself, with what money? i wanted to save him but couldnt. It hurt knowing i couldnt do nothing to help him, i would wrap him in a blanket and give him water. I never seen him sad or depressed, all i could thing of was the dog i knew that seem to be the happiest little puppy ever. It broke my heart to see him laying down and just looking straight with no emotions. Two days past and he was worst, i cried knowing i couldnt really help him, the night of august 22nd he was weaker than ever, i would lay him head on me and he had no control of himself he couldnt walk at all. We were just crying and hoping he would live. My sister came and we wanted to go to the 24 hr. vet hospital . We asked if there was anything to do and they couldnt do nothing. It was only a matter of time that we knew he was going to pass away. We drove home, he was laying on my lap and i could remember was me, crying the whole way home. We layed him down in a blanket and he was just out of it, it seemed like he couldnt hear nor see. He was breathing but dehydrated. We put him alone in a room and just wished for the best. I went to check him every second, he was breathing but had no idea what was going one, i went to him and put my hand on him and prayed. I gave him some water, but nothing only but a couple of gulps. A hour or two passed, and all i can remember was going to him, feeling him stomach to see if he was breathing, he wasent. He was cold, and said to myself he's gone. That whole night i cryed, next day cryed. I just had the memory of him running around, sleeping with me in the bed, and laying outside looking at the sky. My house is quiet, its sad not to hear those little barks. Well now he's in heaven, and i know now he's not suffering. I just feel like what if? what if we had money for the vet, would he still be alive? what would he be doing right now. He will always be in my memory, along with his favorite little stuffed whale and his favorite blanket, and hiding spot. I never felt this way about any other dog, yet i dont concider him a dog, he family, and i lost that family member. I walked to school the day after crying, remembering how i would wake up, put get ready and i see him just watching me laying under the sink. I couldnt go on when i was at school, i just had the memory of him in my head. I love you forever, you were something special, to poncho, i miss you little baby <3
