Nikki a sweet loveable dog who loved her buddy Tucker and her mommy, she is now in heaven.

Nickname: Nicorette, Nikkers, Nik, Poopers

I adopted Nikki in 2004, I actually went to adopt another dog, then my mom said you have to come look at this one, I fell in love with her right there. 3 months after I adopted her she got really sick and needed exploratory stomach surgery, they thought she had a blockage, well she didn't but she ended up paralized 4 days later, she spent a week in the ICU, I went to pick her up, she still couldn't walk and all the said was here's how you express her bladder, be sure to flip her every 4 hours, she was a great dog to take care of, I was like WHAT, what do I do with a dog that can't walk. I couldn't put her to sleep, I was determined to figure this out, I ended up taking her to doggy PT, she had several sessions in the water treadmill, thin I did the rest of the PT at home. I had told Nikki the first night I brought her to ICU that she wasn't going to die on me, that I loved her and she held on, it took about 6 months, her hind legs were weakened but she didn't care. about a year later I got another dog, Tucker, she took to him instantly and they were best buds til the end. On September 9th 2011 I came home from work, played tug a war with Nikki and played outside, went to bed, she woke me up whining at 1 am, her stomach was huge and hard and she was drooling like crazy and drinking like crazy, I stayed up with her all night and waited til someone could give me a ride, a neighbor brought us to the vet at 830 am, I knew what was wrong but didn't want to face it, the vet came in and said her stomach is twisted. I had a lot of things to consider, one the last time she had surgery she didn't do well, two she was 10. I didn't want to put her down but I had no choice, would have paid the 2300 dollars for the surgery, I had already spent thousands on her. But I knew it was time to put her down and be with my mom who I know will take care of her. The vet laid her next to me, she laid her head on my lap, I watched her breathe as I did my mom wondering when her last breath would be. Nikki took her last breath and as that happened, I felt a brush on my back, nobody was there, I believe my mom was consoling me and letting me know that she is with Nikki. I miss her every day and Tucker is beside himself.
