Lacie was a sweet wonderful dog. Not one person ever met her that didn't fall in love with her.

I had Lacie for 12 years. I was her universe and she was mine. She was my shadow every where I went. She loved all the grandchildrin and they loved her so much in return. Lacie knew many tricks. She would stand on her hind legs and then clap her paws together when I would sing, "clap, clap, clap your hands for Jesus. She would give you high five then give high ten. When she wanted her snack she would go open the cabinet door. She would count to ten by patting your hand ten times. There were many more things she could do to.
Lacie was my life.
I had my baby "Lacie" put to sleep yesterday morning. She was suffering from lymphoma. I thought I was prepared. I thought I was saving her from further pain and suffering. I even had the vet come to my house because Lacie hated riding in the car. It made her so nervous and upset and she hated going to the vet even worse. I didn't want her last hours being scared and upset. In the 12 years I've had her, I protected her like she was my baby. She never even stayed with anyone else because I was afraid they may take her out to use the restroom and she might run out in the street, etc.
When the vet came to my house, Lacie even got up and went over to him wagging her tail. The most devastating thing to me was hearing her cry out twice very loud when the vet put the needle in her arm. I can't get that sound and the look in her eyes out of my mind. Here I was trying to prevent her from suffering, yet she suffered worse the very last minutes of her life. She cried out, looked at me in horror, then fell back into my arms dying. This scene keeps playing over and over in my mind. I don't know how to make it go away.
People keep telling me "you wouldn't want her to be here suffering would you?" They don't get it. She suffered worse in the very last minutes of her life than she ever did in the 12 years I've had her.
I loved that dog so much and I feel so traumatized right now. I don't know if I can ever get those images out of my mind. She was such a sweet loving girl. She didn't deserve to go that way. I feel so guilty and heartbroken. I don't know what to do now.
