For the dog I got the honor to grow up with. Rest in peace, big guy.

I remember the first day we got Jackson. Me and my family drove to a lady's house to see the golden and he was shy at first, but once me and my sister started playing with him, he showered us with kisses and loved us. I was 4 years old on this day and I remember it like it was yesterday. Then when we were leaving, I didn't understand what my parents meant by "we're not taking him home tonight", but I accepted it and moved on, but Jackson was always on my mind. About a month later, we went to pick up Jackson and we took him home and from that moment on, I was the happiest little girl in the world. I would tell everyone I met about "my Jaxie". He was always there for me, even when I was in the worst mood and didn't even want to look at him. He listened to me and my parents fight about school, and still loved us no matter what. He exemplified unconditional love in the most extraordinary of ways. Jackson was the best dog I could have ever asked for. Yesterday, on August 8, my mom called saying, "I don't know how to tell you this... But Jackson has a doctor's appointment at 4:00". I figured it would be his surgery because last week, Jackson was diagnosed with a tumor on his spleen that had ruptured. Then my mom said, "Please love on him today and tell him how much he's meant to you". When I realized her use of past tense meant we were putting him down, I immediately broke down in tears and just held him in his pain and told him how much he meant to me. At 3:45, my mom pulled up and said, "let's go". So I put on his leash and he got this huge burst of energy that I haven't seen in months. I thought, "he's all better now, we don't have to do this!" I held his head in my lap and sang to him "You Are My Sunshine", which I sang to him the first night we got him, and he looked at me with his big brown eyes and I knew it was time for him to go. As the doctor administered the needle, I held his head in my lap and stroked his head and ears, just as he liked, and as I said "I love you, Jaxie-Waxie", he shut his eyes, and now he his in heaven playing for eternity.
