Mazie Mae, my beloved best friend and companion. I can't wait to wrap my arms around you in heaven.

Nickname: Maziers, My Girl, Puppers, Crazy Mazie

Mazie Mae was sweetest and bravest dog ever. She liked every person she ever met. Mazie loved her cat brother and sister as well. Her choice though would to always be with people. She also loved kids as they had so much energy to keep up with her. She was a lover and always wanted to be where her mommy was. Mazie loved playing with her ball in the yard or the house. She also loved going on walks, especially at the park where she would encounter plenty of squirrels to chase up trees. She also loved hanging out in her fenced in yard. It was probably her favorite thing to do. Mazie would water flowers with me and always stick her face in the hose to get a good messy drink. She was quite a protector....always barking or growling at the mailman or whoever approached the door, even though she would have made friends with whoever it was. Mazie was diagnosed with lymphoma in August of 2010. the saddest day in my life....little did I know there would be more sad days. She was going to die within months if I didn't help her. She began chemotherapy immediately through my vet. Chemo for animals does not do the same things as it does to people. They do not loose their hair or get violently sick. Mazie did chemo for 6 months and went cancer free for 11 months. The vet, Dr. Kylee,, would always say how Mazie was her model patient. She never gave her a hard time and always was so happy to see everyone at Thomas Vet Clinic. They loved her there. Every time she went she had to get poked. But, she instantly felt better with chemo and she was like a puppy again. Full of life and love. Then, the cancer came back in January of 2012. That was the next saddest day in my life. She again went through 6 months of chemo and was cancer free in July. However, the 3rd saddest day happened in my life when her cancer came back for the 3rd time during first week of September. They told me that she might not be in remission as long as the first time because their body becomes resistant to the drugs. I just didn't think it would be this soon. Mazie became very sick because her lymph nodes in her throat were so big. We got them to go down with prednisone, and she started feeling a little better but I could tell she was not the same. She didn't quite have her appetite that she had. Then, she stopped eating. Mazie developed ulcers from the prednisone or the lymphoma spread into her g.i. tract, were not sure which. She became very weak and could hardly walk and lost a lot of weight. Poor girl still would wag her tail and try to get up when family or friends stopped by. I knew I couldn't help her anymore. I cried and cried and prayed and begged for her life to be spared. Mazie was my life. I have no kids and live by myself. She was more than my pet, she was my best friend and my baby. I would come home every day on my lunch to let her out, talk to her and give her treats. I couldn't wait to come home and sweet talk her, scratch her belly, lay and play with her. Dr. Kylee came to my house to see Mazie on Friday, September 14. I knew it was not going to be good. She told me Mazie was not going to get better and I could let her die on her own, but she could be like this for days or weeks, but then other things would start to fail. I didn't want her to suffer. I could see it in her eyes how tired she was. So, Dr. Kylee said she would come back tomorrow to the house to put her down. I laid with Mazie on the floor all night, constantly talking to her, crying to her, petting her, and begging God to take her in her sleep. I didn't want to put her down. If she could have just been able to tell me what I wanted, I would have felt so much better. I kept looking at the time and dreading 9 am. It was the longest and shortest night I have ever had. Then, Kylee came. I cried and cried. I just couldn't let her go. Twenty-five minutes passed and I finally said ok. I was on the floor with her, looking right at her as she was looking into my eyes. I told her how much I loved her, how sorry I was, and that I promised I would see her again. It was the worst experience I have ever had. the saddest day in my life! To not hear her breathe broke my heart. The house became suddenly quiet. She died at 9:27 a.m. on September 15. Then I was forced with the choice of what I was going to do next with her. I wanted to bury her in the backyard but was told the ground would be too hard and what if I someday moved. I really haven't liked the fact of cremation. We never cremated any animals in our family. I didn't know what to do and felt like I had no other choice. So, Dr. Kylee took Mazie's lifeless body back to the vet to have her cremated. A couple hours passed and I changed my mind. I kept thinking how much Mazie loved the backyard. I could put her right in front of my flower garden and I could talk to her everyday that I sat on my swing in the shade. I called the vet but it was too late. They had already cremated her. I felt like I was grieving twice. Like she had just died again. I still feel just awful that I made that choice and now I have to live with that the rest of my life. I feel like I let her down. Mazie fought cancer and beat it twice! She was my hero! I had 2 extra wonderful years with her and I thank God for that special gift. I can't wait to see Mazie again when we cross Rainbow Bridge. She was my GIRL, my life. I hope you are still playing ball Mazie, I can see your ears propped up right now. I love you Mazie Mae! Be my guardian angel and protect and look after me my sweet baby! Love Mommy

September 18, 2012 - Mazie, I miss you every minute of the day. The nights and mornings are the hardest. We had routines that we did for nine years. My life revolved around yours. I miss hearing you snore...it was comforting. I miss waking you up in the morning with a kiss on your face. I miss our walks, and hurt when I see your leash. I've been sleeping with your favorite ball, as you would often do. I hope for a night that I dream of us playing together, so that I can see you. I have this void in my heart with your name on it. I put a stone in the flower garden that we made together on September 12. I wished I had made it sooner. I hope you know that I am sorry I didn't bury you in the backyard. I regret that and I hope you forgive me. Your ashes will be buried with me when I die...or if I decide to be cremated, we can mix our ashes together and have them spread somewhere. Your cat brother and sister know you are gone... I see them look for you. They loved you also. Please come into my dreams sweet angel. Love, Mommy

September 19, 2012 - Mazie, I ordered your urn. This was so difficult. But, I made it very personal so that you and others know how special you were and always will be to me. It rained hard outside when I was done. Made me very sad. I love you my sweet girl. I'm still waiting on my dream......

September 20, 2012 - I saw a man walking a Golden Retriever today. I had to do a double take cuz she looked just like you. I want to take you on a walk so bad, and our favorite time of year is upon us. We love the fallen leaves. Miss you Mazie!

September 24, 2012- Mazie, this Saturday was truly lonely. It was beautiful out and wanted to be hanging out with you in the yard. I haven't been able to go out to the yard for a week now. It was our playing grounds. I stopped watering the flowers because I just don't feel like doing it without you. I miss you so unbelievably much. You were so special to me baby, I love you sooo much.

October 2, 2012 - I put out the Halloween decorations and kept imagining that you were out in the yard with me, watching me in content. Love you Mazie

October 15, 2012 - Mazie its been one month since you have been gone. I miss your companionship so much. You were my sidekick and you made me feel safe living in this house. I love you and miss you everyday!
