Have you ever had a best friend who was there for you no matter what? This was Koda for me.

Nickname: Bubba Koda

He was my best friend. I know some people say their dog is their best friend but when I moved away from where I was born at 18 and knew nobody, he was always there. Even of I was sitting in the house and feeling sorry for myself he never left my side. After a while I got a job and was gone for eight hours everyday. He could have relieved himself anywhere, could have wrecked the house, and could have destroyed everything but he never did. He stayed laying on his bed right next to the front door until someone arrived home. See my dog had separation anxiety. He was abandoned on the side of the road at 9 months old. We saved him and brought him into our home. Because of the abandonment he would follow you wherever you went. If he couldn't see you, he didn't feel safe. It was because of this that everyone loved him all the more. We needed him to feel welcome in our home and loved from there on out. And we believe he knew this. He fought so hard for weeks before we realized he had pancreatitis and by the time we caught it, it was too late. He was dying and in pain. We kept him alive for another two days before deciding he was the bravest dog in the entire world and was hanging on to be with us one last time. So we went and sat with him all day at the hospital. He could no longer walk, couldn't relieve himself, could not even lift his head but it was nice just to be around him one last time. When the vet came in with those two syringes I lost my mind. I couldn't believe I was going to lose my best friend, forever. While he was being put to sleep we looked him the eye as they slowly closed and said, "bye boy" for one last time. He never woke again. He was only 2 years old. Too soon for a dog that was as perfect as they come. I love you Koda, and I will see you in the future. I hope you are sitting there waiting to lead me away and we can have an eternity to play and be happy.
