Our furry baby that left us so suddenly.... we love you and miss you! <3

Nickname: Harleydog

We got Harley in 2004 right before Thanksgiving. My 6 year old daughter had tried to learn to ride a 2 wheel bike all summer and her daddy told her when she learned he would get her a puppy. Well, that only took 2 days! We went to see Harley at the "nursery" and had to wait 4 long weeks to bring him home. Harley loved to play and eat flip flops when he was a puppy. haha For my daughter's 7th birthday, all the guests brought her flip flops because Harley had eaten all of hers! I think we had 20 pairs of flip flops. He eventually quite eating them but eventually moved onto eating underwear (a habit he never broke).

He loved to watch the kids swim in the pool by running along the edge, sometimes he fell in-never did like the water though. He did like to play in the hose water. My daughter over the years tried to teach him to go through obstacle courses that she built, some videos I think are still on you tube....

One year Harley got really sick and we thought we were losing him.... after alot of tests and medication he became himself again. He had a liver infection which was starting to go into this bloodstream. Through all the testing, it was determined that his thyroid was not functioning, so Harley had to take synthroid twice a day for the rest of his life. Not such a bad thing since he got it in a piece of hot dog.

His only vice was he did not like the UPS man's truck. It wasn't the UPS man, just the truck, hated the sound of it. Once he chased the UPS truck a whole block (after he was gone and I was getting the package off the porch he pushed past me to chase the truck), the UPS brought him back... how funny!! That is exactly how we lost him.... Friday 10/12/12 the UPS man had been here and gone for 15 minutes or so... he pushed past me and ran down our country driveway to chase him, I yelled for him but he kept going. To this day I am not sure if his hearing was really going or if he just had selective hearing, probably selective. Well, he crossed the road, I was at the end of the drive motioning for the man in the truck to stop and for Harley to sit and stay, but neither listened. The man thought I was waving 'hi', and Harley thought he better just get across the road before he got in more trouble with mommy. It happened in a split second, just like that.... my furry baby taken from me.

The man that hit him stopped and offered to take Harley to the vet and pay all vet bills... but he was already gone, I held him until he passed. I told him over and over how much I loved him and he was a good boy. That was 4 days ago... my heart still aches and I cry as I remember him. I hope he knows mommy tried to stop him and save him but God had bigger plans for him. My 27 year old nephew passed on Labor Day of this year from a boating accident, we laid him to rest on 9/12/12, he was waiting for a puppy to be able to come home that he had already picked out with his girlfriend. She now has her new puppy, Jax-I guess my nephew needed Harley more than I did.

we love you Harley and miss you very, very much!! Mommy's heart aches every day. Did you know that I sleep with your leash under my pillow and visit you every day at the deer path where the deer come into the yard? I told the deer that you wouldn't be barking at them anymore but would be able to see you every day.
