Zeddi

Age 11, August 29, 2001 - October 24, 2012

Zeddi was the guudest girl there ever was. Doofus, protector, friend, constant companion.

My wife and I met late in 2000 and found a darling German Shepherd purebred puppy in October of 2001. She was with us almost the entire time we were together. Zeddi's litter was living in a gap under some concrete stairs, which made us angry when we pulled up. Zeddi's mom was all black and greeted us first with no people around. We were told her father was killed running out into the street. We were told she was 8 weeks old but when we received her papers it turns out she was 5 weeks and 2 days old.

Zeddi was so curious. Her littermates were cuddled in a ball under the stairs when we arrived. There was a light drizzle on a chilly Michigan October day. Zeddi walked out oblivious and started exploring. I picked her up, cuddled her by may face and showed my future wife how cute she was. That's all it took.

Neither of us ever had any children so Zeddi was it and we treated her like she was our child. We think of her constantly. She went through extensive training when she was young and we worked with Zeddi, her whole life. She was so loving and willing to please. She would tell us when she had to go out by placing her head on us and applying pressure. Zeddi would relentlessly pursue her squird which was the nickname for her flying squirrel toy.

I have to share her naughtiness which happened mostly during her first two years.
* Shredded grandma's cell phone.
* Pooped on the white carpet, walked in it then walked all over.
* Ran away once and made dad pursue her through the fields on a mountain bike.
* Ate the kitchen cupboards.
* Ripped pages out of books with her front flea teeth.
* Loved to shred used tissues from the waste baskets.

Some awesomeness about Zeddi.
* Her favorite treats were greenies. We started hiding them in the house and letting her find them. No matter where we hid them she always found them.
* Zeddi loved chasing the laser light. I think she would have chased it until she had a doggie heart attack if we would have let her. When she passed away we tied it to her paw so she could take it with her.
* Once I faced a possibly fatal illness and was often sleeping. My wife came home one day to find me sleeping on the sofa and Zeddi sitting next to me with one paw up on the sofa. She always runs to the door whenever anyone comes home. She knew her dad needed her and stayed with me.

Mom and Dad love you Zeddi! You were our best doggy friend and some day we will visit you in doggy heaven!
