Three weeks ago today, we lost our beloved Woody. My daughter and son were 5 and 3 when we got him. They were 20 and 17 when he passed. Woody grew up with us in the same house we raised our children. He was the best dog ever. He chased squirrels in the backyard and tried to intimidate bigger dogs than him. He loved apples and yogurt, (licked every last bit of it from the cup)! He was playful and loved to sleep. He had different spots in the house he picked to nap, other than his bed. The last five years of his life he was blind and deaf, but still did things any regular dog would do. He was energetic, barely did tricks but was still very special to us. He was our third child more than our dog. He would lay down with each other us at different times. He always knew when it was time to go to sleep. He walked almost everyday up until the last few months. Woody was affected by kidney disease. The last year and a half, he was uncontrollably peeing on the floor, which was not like him. He would always bark if he had to go outside to do his business. He would urinate on the floor and drink endless amounts of water. It was up until two days before he passed, we realized the cause of this excess drinking and urinating were because his kidneys were failing.
It was a hard pill to swallow knowing that he was sick. My daughter did not sleep that night and was up doing research trying to find a cure for our Woody. Sadly, after hearing a second and identical opinion, we made the tough decision to put our Woody to sleep. We bought air dry clay and imprinted his paws into them so we would always remember his paw prints. We made one for each member of the family. Ultimately, on the morning of February 7,2013 at 8:31a.m., Woody became our fluffy angel as we all held him and felt his last breath. We still cry for you Woody and cannot come to realization that you are gone. But we are at peace knowing that you can see again and able to hear again. Can't wait to meet you at the rainbow bridge, make sure you wait for us!
