Nickname: Beast, You rascal, Merlygig
When he was a puppy, Merlin would hump my leg at the dog park which amused the other dog people. He once got hold of a pigeon that had died days earlier and played "Catch me!" with it until I finally caught him. No 2 creatures ever smelled worse than we did that day.
When we lived in a two-storey house, when I left the house, he would sit at the top of the stairs and I could peek in and see his ears perk up when I put my key in the lock. I would open the door and squeal, "Beast!" And he would run down those stairs to greet me so quickly, it almost scared me.
A friend of mine who had a scooter, bought Merlin a special carrying sack she could strap to herself to take him for rides. He also wore doggles, of course.
In our apartment building, when we got off the elevator, I would take off his leash and say, "Go!" And we would race down the hall to our apartment. He always won and I would accuse him of cheatin'.
I am writing this only 3 days after Merlin's death so the pain is still very fresh, deep and raw.
I can't imagine ever having another pup that would share the kind of devotion we had for each other. It almost seemed unfair that Merlin was so adorable looking AND good-natures. He had it all, particularly my heart.
