I remember when we took you home from the pet store.We couldn't leave you behind.I could never walk by you without giving you a treat or a scratch.Your little pout and stubby tail made it hard to resist.I will miss the summer fun of you trying to catch the water from the hose.The way you would lay perfectly still when the cats came by until the last second then pounce at them.My heart is aching for you.I can't sleep.I try to picture you running free and being the puppy you always were.I miss you so much.Your memory will never be left behind.

The way you smelled… the feel of your thighs
when I sat in your lap! Oh, what joy!
But please don’t worry about your boy.

Don’t cry for me because I hurt no more -
I’ve just gone through Doggy Heaven’s door.
My room is fine… got lots of new friends;
It's sunny here where a dog’s life ends!

Don’t miss me too much, I’m doin' fine.
The chauffeur? Oh, he comes about nine.
And soon, ears-a-flappin', off we go.
I just LOVE riding in my limo so!

Don’t be so sad please, there’s tons to eat.
When back from my drive, I chomp some meat!
Then, after dinner, I nap a while.
And… when I dream of you… it makes me smile.

After my nap, God and I play catch;
I get to throw and HE has to fetch!
We wrestle and romp—God loves to play!
When I wear Him out, we call it a day.

At day’s end "the sofa starts callin'"
God strokes my ear, asleep I’m fallin’.
(And tho’ He tries hard, this much is true:
Even GOD can’t pet me as good as you!)
