Nickname: Odie, Otis Spunkmeyer, Spunks, Handsome, Buds

Otis "Odie" Galleo, age 14, went to the Rainbow Bridge on June 14, 2018. He was born in Iowa and moved to Virginia at a young age. While he was trained as a hunting dog for birds on dry land, it was impossible to keep him out of the water. So, at the age of 2, he was adopted by his loving family, where he spent his days romping through the woods, swimming in the Outer Banks, and playing with his fun-loving human sister. His absolute favorite activity was swimming. He could retrieve his orange bumper from the water for hours. When he wanted to rest, he would plop down in the shallow water, careful to maintain control and sight of his orange bumper, panicking if it got out of his sight. He carried it like a cigar in his mouth! Odie loved to jump waves in ocean and enjoyed digging in the sand for treasure. He also enjoyed the snow and would make snow angels and dig tunnels through the snow with his big head. On warmer days, he liked to bask in the sun and sniff all the wild smells in the air.

Odie loved all humans and dogs. He thought everyone was his best friend. He had the sweetest disposition that was matched by his sweet, handsome face and big brown eyes. He had ears of velvet that could hear a bag of treats open form miles away. He had a crazy tail that resembled helicopter blades when he was excited, which was most of the time! Odie was always happy and "smiled" often. He was not your typical lab, however. He often refused to eat crumbs off the floor; he only chewed up his own toys, and he absolutely loved going to the vet. This earned him the nicknames of goofball, weirdo, and goober.

Odie helped his mama get through some very difficult times and often served as her sounding board after a hard day at work! He was very protective of his mama, maintaining his guard post every night at the foot of her bed. He can never be replaced and will be forever missed. His mama loved him dearly and feels like she has lost her best friend.

Odie, I hope you're swimming in crystal blue lakes and running through beautiful green fields with all your friends. I'm sure Heaven never runs out of tennis balls or bright orange bumpers! Until we meet again, my handsome boy!
