Our beloved Sophie (15yrs) began her journey to heaven at home in her oversized lamby bed with her mom and best friend Karissa and her favorite toy by her side. Sophie, affectionately known as “Fi” valiantly fought a battle with cancer for 6 months and made the most of every day.
Sophie is survived by her mom and best friend Karissa, close companions Justin Barton and Adam Brantner and a large amount of close family and friends.
Sophie came to our family in December of 2005. She was a tiny and shy puppy at first but soon developed a love of mischief and running away. She quickly transitioned to her forever home with Karissa as a birthday gift from Adam Brantner where they provided a little training and a lot of love. Sophie spent many years with Karissa and Adam as the three of them enjoyed their youthful prime. She accompanied them to West Virginia where she accidentally got herself into a cup of Captain Morgan someone left by the pool, and to the Carolinas where she had her first beach experience and discovered her love of hotel elevators. It was during these years that she developed her strong love for an unexpected treat, peas.
Later in life, she found her perfect retirement home with Karissa and Justin Barton. Sophie was known for barking at any stranger initially but ran to Justin as if he were an old friend. Justin’s dislike for small dogs was quickly extinguished as she made a quick and deep imprint on his heart. Adam’s home was an exciting vacation spot for Sophie whenever Karissa and Justin needed to travel but she recently tagged along on an unforgettable road trip to Tennessee and Alabama’s gulf shore beaches just weeks before her diagnosis which provided the most amazing memories.
In her last year of life, she had the fortune of spending every single day as Karissa’s coworker while she worked from home, and her copilot on daily Dunkin Donuts trips where the workers came to know her well. There have been limited moments of separation between Karissa and Sophie over the last 15 years, but even less in her final year, making her transition to heaven so bittersweet.
In Sophie’s honor, she is requesting everyone to hold their pups a little tighter, take a little bit longer of a walk, bring them with you on an errand, and let them know how much they mean to you today.
