Were just a little pup.
Fighting to survive,
And you never gave up.

HE had told me a thousand times over that I was hIS reason for being;
by the way he rested against my leg;
by the way HE wagged HIS tail at my smallest smile;
by the way HE showed HIS hurt when I left without taking HIM along
(I think it made HIM sick with worry because HE was not along to care for me).

I watched you grow into abeautiful friend.Back in those days,I could not imagine this end.

But now it is all over,And you’re truly gone..I’ll keep your photo hung up on my wall,
And I’ll always remember youAs the very best dog of all.

Oh, I am going to miss you,No question about that;But, for your pain to go,
I had to send you back.And when my time on earth is done,
And at heaven’s gate I’m near,I don’t want any harps or horns,Just … happy barks to hear.

HE was loyalty itself.
HE had taught me the meaning of devotion.
With HIM, I knew a secret comfort and a private peace

HIS head on my knee could heal my human hurts.
HIS kisses on my tears washed away my bad feelings.
