Nickname: Charley “Baby”
December 14, 2015 - December 4, 2025.
Ms. Charley, “Baby,” was an absolute joy to experience in our family for nine (9) years.
She fit in perfectly.
In her early days with us, it took some time to get used to being on a leash, but after settling down, she looked forward with anticipation to walks around the neighborhood at least once a day, and some days perhaps two (2) or three (3)!
Rather quickly, Ms. Charley, became the unofficial Goodwill Ambassador for neighborhood 11a, in Sun City.
Charley enjoyed receiving “pets” and attention from everyone she encountered on her walks.
She “knew” them before they “knew” her.
Prior to her dad’s retirement, Charley had many opportunities to visit nursing homes, to bring comfort and support residents, and even, some who were on hospice.
Ms. Charley’s most favorite place to be was in her backyard.
She loved her backyard so much that, when possible weather wise, she preferred to eat her breakfast and dinner outside.
Another thing that Charley loved were her treats.
Harold, a neighbor, whose home is half a yard away from ours, diagonally, would almost daily throw a milk-bone type treat across the expanse to land in her yard.
Charley soon learned how to subtly “encourage” her friend Harold to send treats over the fence for her to savor.
She had a talent to get people to do things that they might not ordinarily do.
Charley was a happy baby and loved playing with her many stuffed “babies” and toys.
At various times throughout the year, Ms. Charley would travel by car to visit her human sister who would eventually move to Florida and put a saltwater pool in her backyard.
Charley would be the first one in the pool and last one out at the end of the day to corral the froggies in the backyard to bid them a goodnight nudge.
Like most Goldens, Charley was a lovable, happy pup, who knew exactly how to relate to her humans.
She really liked to be near, i.e., as close as possible, to members of her family.
These wonderful remembrances and so many others clearly demonstrate what a special baby our Charley was / is.
Ms. Charley, bravely and very stoically, faced a major battle with cancer on many fronts, that we were completely unaware of until the last two (2) weeks of her life.
We were absolutely devastated to learn of its extent after an ultrasound imagining scan of her body.
She was so strong up to the very end.
We miss her so much.
We look forward to seeing her again on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.
Thank you, Charley, for being such a good girl!
We love you.
