Shadow

Age 12, August 25, 1996 - July 14, 2009

RIP Shadow. Daddy will always love you and you will never be forgotton. Until the day we meet again.

I got Shadow when he was around 5 weeks old and took him out of a bad home where he was not being treated right. My wife Michelle told me to go somewhere with her because she had something to show me. She went into a building and she came out of the building with this little puppy and placed him on my chest. I immediately fell in love but I told her we couldn't take him because at that time we lived in a building which did not allow pets. We went home and I couldn't get him out of my head and the sitiuation he was in so I made a deal with my wife. I told her if you call the landlord right now and he says its ok I will go back right now and pick up Shadow. To my surprise the landlord said yes and I told my wife lets go and pick him up. We jumped in the car and picked up Shadow. From that moment on Shadow was my world and my best friend. I remember being home alone for game 7 of the 1996 World Series. I sat down and had Shadow on my lap during the whole game. I remember when the Yankees won the series I jumped up and gave Shadow a big hug and kiss and he started to bark as if he was celebrating with me. Shadow and I were inseperable and had a very close bond. Shadow was great with my kids and was also very protective of my wife and was very smart. Two years ago I was crushed to find out he had a huge tumor on a nerve. Although the surgery was going to cost me a fortune the Vet assured me he would be fine. The tumor was so big that they had to amputate his front leg. I was devasted but Shadow amazed me. He ran around and played like he had all four legs and there was nothing that could slow him down.Three days ago I took him to the Vet because he was having problems going to the bathroom. I was informed that he had 2 hernia's and that he needed surgery. I was not worried because I knew if he had overcome the first surgery he could the same again. The next day was when I was informed that he also had a huge tumor in his spleen and it appeared the Cancer had returned. I was devasted and could not believe what I had just learned. He was so tired and old and had been through so much that I had to make the most difficult decision of my life and that was to have them humanely euthanize him. I feel so crushed and devasted and have not been able to sleep for 2 nights. I miss him so much and I loved him like a son. I had him cremated and I am keeping the ashes with me. I will never forget him and I will always love him.
