thank you for all the love you gave, I'll always remember you and hope we'll meet again.

Nickname: Mr Cruz, Cru-Cru, big boy, Cruzer

Cruz was sensational, full of energy at the beach, mellow at home. He was kind to all creatures. He barked 2 or 3 times when someone was at the gate, that's it. We went camping many times, many places and he wouldn't bark in over a week. Once he barked good though, as he chased a bear out of the campground ( I kept him tied up at night in bear territory from then on, I didn't want him to get hurt !).
He was very easy to take care of, always doing his best to please me, he was a true angel. He proved this when he was about 6 months old ; he protected a neighbor carrying her infant from a rottweiler jumping to hurt the child. She had come to visit me and was walking back to her place 1/4 mile away, I was in the house, unaware of the situation. She told me later ; she was amazed and very thankful to Cruz.
He loved to swim and swam well, even riding the surf. He delighted children by allowing them to hitch a ride by holding on to his tail. He was such a strong swimmer it would barely slow him down.
I got him at three months old and he lived to almost 13, so he gave me many years of companionship. Even his death was a gift to me since I was starting to wonder if I'd have to put him to sleep (he was not eating, coughing and had a hard time getting up and walking), but he spared me the agonizing decision by dying peacefully and naturally.
I miss him badly, he leaves a big emptiness in my life.
I am thankful for the great companion life gave me.
Sept. 02 2010 : You've been gone for a year and of course, I still miss you, my gentle one, I was so used to have you by my side. I think of you often, still amazed at how good a dog you were. I hope you're well wherever you are, that you feel my love for you. Be blessed Mr. Cruz.
Sept. 02 2011 : I can't believe it's been 2 years since your death. You're still in my heart, I keep such a good memory of you, sweet dog. 9 months ago I adopted a female puppy german shepherd who reminds me of you in many ways. She too is very kind and loving and even looks like you though much thinner. She was born in the first days of September, I'll celebrate her B-day tomorrow. I think of you often and pay my respect to your beautiful spirit.
Le 2 septembre 2013: Mon gentil chien, ca fait 4 ans que tu m'a quitte et je pense encore a toi souvent, tu etais un chien magnifique et je t'aime beaucoup.
Ca me plairait tant de te revoir, je prendrais encore meilleur soin de toi.
Je regrette d'avoir ete trop deprime pour te chou-chouter plus dans ta derniere annee, tu meritais toujours d'etre chou-choute, tu donnais tant d'amour.
Je te remercie d'avoir ete un si bon compagnon.
Je t'honore en prenant bien soin de Lazuli qui te ressemble beaucoup en caractere et aussi en visage, elle aussi est douce et joyeuse, aime tous les chiens et humains.

September 2015: You've been gone for 6 years and I still miss you and think about you often. I'm lucky to have Lazuli now, boy what would I give to have both of you and get puppies from you. My sweet Cruz I salute you, big hugs to you.
