He was my baby. Everyone loved him. The best dog I've ever had and the first dog I raised myself.

Nickname: Fluffy Butt

I guess I should start at the beginning... My friends' husky jumped the fence and got the neighbor's black lab / rhodesian ridgeback in the family way. I had lost a kitten to my neighbors' chow the year before and therefore wasn't looking for a new baby. But I went to see the puppies anyway, three caught my eye right off. The largest had blue eyes like his dad but otherwise unremarkable (the mommy's owners ended up keeping him). One female was tall black and lean with small tan eye brows (who another friend adopted later). But the second largest male was the prettiest little boy of the litter and my new baby.
While waiting for a ride home later that day my roommate and I were debating over his name. She thought the name I picked was silly but didn't have a good name either, then along came a young man with such an unusual name that happened to be related to "Jonas". So that became his first name and the original name I picked became his middle name. He of course then also took my last name.
Things turned for the worse after he was 6 months old. He had pronounced hip dysplasia and either needed expensive surgery or to be put down. My roommate (his other mommy) and I were both just getting by and had no way of affording surgeries. Luckily we had guardian Angels by the names of Charles and Dusty who had watched him for us over Christmas and had fallen in love with him. He had his first surgery before he was a year old and his second shortly after that. All this did make him a rather large inside dog for life, but one who also always had a yard and lots of love.
