Buddy was the smartest, most loyal friend.

Nickname: Buddy Boy

Buddy was born during a snow storm January 4th 1996. Buddy joined our family March 10th 1996. He was one of 9 puppies, 7 boys, 2 girls. We wanted a boy and played with all of them. Buddy was the best dog there, at Heartland Retrievers, he just followed David and stayed at his feet the whole time. If David stopped, Buddy stopped and just looked up. David knew this was the dog he was taking home. The whole way home we called him Buddy, so we could name him with the kids. Well, the name Buddy stuck. So much for Harley and Honda! LOL
Buddy was our 4th child, furry or not, he was our child! He didn't ever know he was a dog. He made our family complete. We all were so happy, even Mickey who said, "I don't want a dog and I won't walk or take care of one". Well, that changed fast, I think Mickey made more trips to the park with Buddy than anyone else. Buddy even slept in Mickeys bed and that became his favorite place, where he could watch out the window and keep and eye out front. He was a little lost when Mick grew up and moved out, but he moved to our our sitting room couch where he slept and kept watch over our back yard and told Daddy when the bad guys were out there stealing our dirtbikes! (he usually ended up in our bed at Davids feet).
His life was perfect until we brought this furry little rat dog named Spike home. Buddy was not sure about him but soon learned to let Spike be the boss. Then, another one, Blondie, who took up a little bit more of our attention but he knew he was still the number one dog.
Buddy was so smart. You could just talk to him as if he was human, he knew everything you said. We had to spell things and that only worked for awhile. He would even shake his head yes when his Daddy said, "Do you love me?". He has been as much a part of our family as anyone else and a big part is now missing. Time will heal, we know it does, but we will always remember and miss the best dog that anyone ever had!
