Kayla was our heart for 15 years. She will forever be missed

Nickname: Kayla Burger, Kay kay, Burger Head, Kay Burg, Burg

Kayla came into my life in 1994 at the age of 8 weeks. She was to be my sons dog, but ended up mine. I had no idea she would become my life line. She was a long hair chia mix. I had seizures and she became my nurse. She knew when they were comeing and what to do. First she would run around the house barking her head off.looking for help. If we were alone she would sit on me while barking the whole time. There were times when that little bark was all I needed to hear. I met my partner in 1997 and he and Kayla became fast friends. She loved to ride on his shoulder while he drove to the flea market where we worked. She would then ride in her stroller and show of for all the people there. She also loved to go out in the crab boat. The crabs she could have done without. Then about 4 years ago her health started to go down hill. Her lungs were bad and her heart became surrounded by fluid. It was hard to watch my little girl fight for breath at times. But the vet put her on meds and she got better. Then late one night she woke me up making funny sounds. To my horror she was in the middle of her own seizure. The little dog who had comforted me so many time now needed me to comfort her. My life forever changed that night. They put her on meds and for awhile it worked but there was always that one that would come on in surprise. Time marches on and Kayla went deaf, her teeth were a mess, even after haveing them cleaned. Then the seizures became alot worse. I would hold her and tell her it was ok to go to rainbow bridge. That she had done her job and that it was time for her to rest. But iside I was crying for her to stay with me. Then In August of 2009 she got really bad and I took her to the vet. They told me her teeth had absessed and that it went down her throat and into her stomach. They were going to send us home with meds. Then I looked at Kayla, she lifted her little eyes at me and I heard just as plain as day "I'm tired Mama. I hurt so bad. I just want to rest". I told the vet that I could not put her through anymore. I kissed her and hugged her. I told her I loved her and that I would see her in Heaven. She died on August 5, 2009. Her pain is over mine has just begun. A friend of mine drew me a picture of her for christmas. My daughter made a beautiful cross for her. Kayla was and always will be my heart. She will never be forgotten and forever missed.

How long will it be before I stop calling your name before I remember you are gone?
How long will it be before I can speak your name without tears?
How long will it be before I stop looking at soft dog beds for you?
How long will it be before I stop putting the pillow over my face at night so noone hears my screams?
How long will it be before I can stop leaving my legs wet after I take a shower because you liked to lick them dry?

Well Kayla it has been 5 months since you left me and I still miss you. But you will be glad to hear that the tears do not come as often. I know you are in a far far better place. It seems when I miss you the most I will see a sign that says you are still near me. Bump is back to being her crabby self. Right after you died she would let me cry in her fur without trying to bite my face off. She even let me sleep with my hand on her. As you know that was a no no. Now she growls deep in her throat at me if I even think about putting my hand on her. I guess she figured I had cried enough and it was time to move on. The other night we had a bad thunderstorm and Bump acted just like you use to do. Tail low ears flat body low to the flool and shakeing the whole time. She would not let me out of her sight. I asked her if your spirit had taken over her body because she never acted like that. Kaya I knew how scared of thunderstorms you were that is why I could not put you in a grave in the back yard. I would have wanted to go out there and sit with you everytime it rained. Besides we do not plan to stay here. I could not have left your body there. The vet was kind enough to do that for us. I hope you know how much I love you. I will never forget you. When you think the time is right send me the next fur baby that needs me. I am in no hurry though your sisters are still a hand full. Cheyanne is still the clown of the house. I never knew a rottie could be so goffy. Holly Girl is still very protective of the food bowl. She will always be know as the Throw Away Hound, the little stray that came for breakfast and stayed for supper. Then there is Bump the devil dog. Part Fiest, part Chia, and 100% Satan. The joke with her is that she will never die because God does not want her and the Devil is scared of her. Her eyes glow red when she is mad. They have helped me alot with your passing. Have fun in Heaven and I will see you again someday. I love Burger Head.
