To Cyndi Lou. She was the best Grand Old Diva we could ever have the priviledge to love.

When we received Cyndi Lou in 2002, she was one scared little chin who had never experienced love, men or playtime with anyone. She was kept in a cage somewhere in Missouri to breed more chins even though her left paw was a club foot. Her first night here in the house was a nightmare since she would not let any other dog near her and she threatened to eat anyone who came near. We thought she would never work out but in the span of 24 hours, she calmed down and let all the other dogs sniff her and let us love her...probably for the first time in her life. But, her trials were just starting in that she had to be spayed and she had to have a dental performed. Her inside, as the vet told us, were like hamburger. The vet had never seen anything so hideous as her insides. She was spayed and her teeth, except for 4, were pulled. Her gums were so much in recession that you could stick a toothpick in between the roots of the teeth. Once she was spayed and her teeth pulled, she was taken to the adoption agency to await Sharon's arrival to pick her up and take her home to us. Once she saw Sharon, she stopped shaking and wanted Sharon to hold her and the bond was set between those two. Cyndi Lou loved Sharon and was loved by both of us in return. When Sharon came home from lunch, Cyndi would get up on her hind legs, look out the window and yap her happy bark at the return of her person, Sharon. Sharon was the only person that Cyndi would do chin spins and play with. She would not play with the other dogs nor would she have much to do with me since I was a man. Cyndi's kingdom was her couch since she always stayed on it and would not get off of it unless she was going out to do her business. Her food and her water was brought to her so that she could eat. Food and water was available on the floor for the other dogs but she would not get off the couch to go get it. Her servants would bring her food and water. We were never kissed, at least I never was, and she would move her head back and forth before she ate as if to say, "Is this it? I demanded caviar because I am a Diva!" It was only in her last year of life that she finally got off the couch to act and interact with the rest of the family and would, at times, actually come into the kitchen to get a snack of whatever Dad was eating. Ahhh...good times. At 17, she was treated to her own cupcake that she relished and ate as if she had never had such a treat. We thought she would, for sure, make it to 18 but that was not to be. In he last week she suddenly stopped eating and went downhill fast. She died on Good Friday before noon and we took her to the Pines Cemetery for cremation. In her earlier life, she was treated bad and left outside to breed. In her later life, she was treated to life inside, loved and treated like the Diva she was. In death, she will stay inside with us until we die and then, and only then will she go with one of us to the grave.
