Blue

Age 14, ~1995 - June 22, 2009

We had Blue since she was 6week old, was a very loving dog and fulfilled our lives for 14 yrs.

I remember seeing the ad for Australian Shepards in the paper and asking my father-in-law if he knew what they were. He told me that my husband had one and that they were pretty good dogs. I asked my husband if we could go check them out and he said yes but we were not getting one. We went to look at the puppies and next thing I knew my husband said we'll take this one. She had him wrapped around her paw from the first time he laid eyes on her. When we brought her home, our cat was bigger than she was. She grew up thinking she was a cat, trying to do everything that Lucky did. Her boyfriends were the neighbors Golden Retrevers, the only dogs she would allow inside our fenced in yard. She loved cats, they would sleep with her and she would play with them. One time she would be chasing Lucky around the house and then Lucky would chase Blue. She was pretty upset when Lucky passed away at age 17 but we got Buddy and they had the same relationship that her and Lucky had. In November she was diagnosed with Cushings Disease and her sugar became a problem in December. She spent the week before Christmas in the hospital to get her sugar under control. She came home two days before Christmas and was on insulin and had trouble walking but could go with assistance. She reminded me of a frail old woman but was not in pain and was not ready to leave us so we made her last few months as pleasant as we could. When she stopped eating we knew it was time to put her to sleep. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do and I will miss her a lot.
