We love you so much and can not believe you are not with us any longer. We miss you!

Yesterday started out so amazingly well, My 3 year old siberian husky and I walked to work from our car and she saw a horse for the first time, she was so amazed at how big that dog was, she was so happy. My friend the dog walker called and asked me if he could take her to the dog park with the other dogs and I said yes, she would love it. As I sat at my desk two hours later my phone rang and it was the dog walker, he was yelling into the phone "Michele, Gidget! somethings happened!" I yelled back "what! where is she what" he told me he was walking out of the dog park onto broadway a major street in NYC when all of a sudden she got out of her leash collar and ran into the street, a huge truck hit her, it hit her and sped off it didnt wait, it didnt check to see what kind of damage was done. I screamed I cried I ran out of the office and ran as fast as I could to where she was, the dog walker met me half way and drove me to her, getting to that street I saw over 100 gawkers staring under a car, as I approached I saw my baby under the car, she looked scared, she looked tired. I tried to climb under the car, I called out her name I told her Mommy was here, I told her I loved her, she looked up at me with her husky smile.

An animal ambulance took us to a Animal hospital near by. They did CPR on my baby for over 45 minutes, I cried, I screamed, I pleaded with them to do anything and everything possible to save her. I called my husband I told him I needed him , he drove to us from Jersey, I watched while my baby died on that table. I watched the life slip out of her face. I have never felt such anguish or pain in my entire life. My sister drove over to see us as quickly as she could. She pleaded with me to think about the unborn baby and the stress I was putting on him/her. I sat next to my dog for about four hours in a exam room, she looked so peaceful, I didnt want to leave her.

Gidget wasnt only a dog, she was my companion she took the drive with me to work every single day, she stayed with me at work since the day we got her. She followed me around the house as my shadow, she loved me unconditionally, all she wanted was my love. I keep thinking about the what ifs, what if I called out sick yesterday, what if I only put on her harness which was right next to my car keys, what if I said no to the dog walker, what if I had walked her instead. My heart has broken. Last night walking into the house was the hardest thing I have ever done. I asked my husband to put away her bowls that were in the kitchen. I cried as I stared at her new treats on the counter, the doggie shampoo still in the bag, her collars and leashes hanging from its hook, her toy box filled with her favorite toys. I stared at the couch she took over and made her bed, I saw her husky hairs still floating on the couch from the morning, I put my head on that couch and cried, I cried Like I have never cried in my entire life. My husband begged me to stop, begged me for our babies sake, begged me to eat. I couldnt do any of those things. We both cried last night, I have never heard the sounds I heard that came out of my husbands throat he is suffering and I dont know how to comfort him. I couldnt sleep last night. I walked by the couch and half expected to see her head pop up to greet me. My husband called the doctor and he told him to give me a benadryl and begged him to make me eat. I had a yogurt and water and cried into my pillow the entire night through. This morning was not any easier, I couldnt stay home alone so I left the house as soon as my husband did, the ride to work was the worse. I could still see the smudges on the back seat window where her nose always is, I could still see her hairs on the back seat. Walking to work was so wierd, I am in the habit of having her leash in my hand and watching her gallop with her tail in the air all the way to work. I cried as I walked to work and I cry as I write this. Yesterday I lost alot of me, yesterday a little of me died . I didnt think pain could feel this way, I didnt think I could ever love a dog the way I loved her. She wasnt only my dog she was also my baby.

Today is just as bad as yesterday I walked in to see her water bowl and her favorite toy on my office floor, her picture hanging on my door.I dont think I can cope I dont think I will ever be ok. RIP my baby Gidget! I hope you know how much we love you. My heart aches everyday you are not here. How I wish you were here with me today. I miss you soo much Gidge. I hope youre running through streams and making new friends.
