The day that I picked Thumper Jo up, she had been seen wandering a major highway in Eastern Kentucky for over a week. I kept telling my husband that this dog was going to
get killed either by a coal truck or a gravel truck. I believe that she had been left behind
by some people that had a summer home. She was in good health, no collar and was a beautiful dog. On my way home that fateful September afternoon, I saw her go under a
guard rail just as a coal truck went by her. I made up my mind that this was it. I turned my
VW around and went back and picked her up. She was tired and layed down in the floor board and went to sleep. When I got home, I told my husband what I had done. At that time we already had 2 other dogs and he said, "Oh Glenda." I took her to the Vet, had her spayed, tried to get her adopted out, but fell in love with her and kept her. She was so street savy, she loved to hunt rabbits, birds, dig up moles. One of the funniest things I ever saw her do was she dug up a mole, played with him, covered him back up, dug him back out and continued this until the poor little fellow died. She was a wonderful watch dog, she really didn't like the UPS or Fedex people and would give them a run for their money when she was outside. In our home, she had her own twin bed in the computer room and every night she would go jump into her bed and go to sleep. While on vacation in September of 2010, she became extremely ill while we were in Destin, Florida. We took her to the Clinic in Destin, where she received 2 blood transfusions. She perked up, came home and in 2 weeks she was down again. She was severely anemic (IMHA) and was taken to University of Tennessee. To make a long story short, she was in and out of the hospital 3 different times and had a weekly visit to our local vet. Just when we thought her blood count had taken a turn for the better, she bottomed out and on December 8, 2010 she passed away on her way to University of Tenesse in the back seat of our car. Needless to say we were devestated. It has now been almost 2 months and we still think about her every day. Thumper you were the best and as long as we live we will always love you.
