My family's dog Snowball came to us in a very special way. Snowball came to us in 1999, when he was 3 years old. Snowball was bounced around from household to household, before fate set in and we adopted him. This was very good timing because my sister was going off to college and he was considered her "replacement", my companion while she was at school. My parents were both retired and cared for Snowball during the day, however I couldn't wait to play with him when I came home from school everyday-he would be waiting for me anxiously. Over the years, my Father was diagnosed with cancer several times and Snowball stayed by his side and fought right by my father. My father is still alive and healthy, and we owe a great deal to Snowball for helping my Father's spirit. My dog was unbelievable; a true love. He passed to heaven today and I am mourning for him as if he were my brother. He will always be in my heart, and I miss him more than words can say.
Here is a poem I wrote for him:
When I was lost, and needed a friend
I found you there, an angel God did send
Two button eyes and fur as white as snow
A beautiful bichon with a handsome blue bow
No judgments or cruelty did you ever give
You showed us only love and examples of how we should live
Through the sad times when hope was less
Your puppy face gave our family playfulness
Barks at the door were cries of love and stories of who you saw
Whether it be Finbar, Bailey, or Cosmo's paws
When Daddy was sick and needed a grin
Snowball put his master's leg under his chin
On this morning he was called to help those in need
Heaven's members whose souls had planted a seed
With angels helping those down below
God needed Snowball above for his 'Best in Show'
