On Saturday, March 26th, 2011, Gizmo peacefully went to be by his late brother Scooby's side as a result of a heatstroke at Lakeline Animal Care in Austin, Texas. He had suffered numerous health issues in the latter part of his life. While he fought until the very end, our little warrior simply could not keep on. He left us after having provided our family with thirteen years of unending love and wonderful memories. He was always a friend to everyone, and like his brother, left an impression in our hearts that can never be replaced.

He was born December 20th, 1998, and was introduced into our family six weeks afterwards. Immediately, his territory and presence was made apparent. His diminutive size was no indication of how big he thought he was. He won the love and affection of everyone (except other dogs) that he came in contact with. His feisty demeanor and his royalty-like attitude made him easily recognizable to everyone he met, and his zest for life (and double cheeseburgers from McDonald's) ensured no one could meet him and not love him. You could not walk out the door without him yelling (barking) at you for not giving him love and attention before your exit. His signature move to stop you from walking out the door was to put his tiny paw (which smelled of cornchips) on your foot.

Gizmo spoke without using words. He spent the last couple of years of his life in a relative state of relaxation. He was one of the kindest souls one could ever come across (even when he pooped all over his grandpa, then later peed on him to further mark his territory). He will be sorely missed, but we are comforted by the knowledge that he is now beyond us and once again by his little brothers side.

Gizmo is survived by his loving parents, Abel & Renee Ortiz (Rivera), paternal grandparents, Uvaldo & Luisa Ortiz, maternal grandparents, Hector & Lilia Ana Rivera, uncle Hector Rivera, Jr, aunt Zoe Rivera, and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be cremated.
