Daphne...my first Dachshund, and the one that made me fall in love with the breed

Nickname: Daphen Duck

I rescued Daphne when she was only nine months old. She was br:ought to the veterinary clinic where I was employed about one hour before closing time. She was unconscious, her gums where white, and she was only about one-half of her normal body weight. Her temperature was only 92 degrees. She was warmed with towels from the dryer and placed on a heating pad, and IV fluids were started. When the owner was told that he'd have to take her to the ER for overnight care, he said to just "put her to sleep because I'm not spending thousands of dollars on this dog". I took her instead and paid his bill for the evening. I didn't think that she'd live, but she did, and it was a match made in Heaven. This little girl bonded with me almost immediately. Her weight loss was due to giardia, and once I eliminated the parasite, she gained weight rapidly. She was the best little girl, and she and Henry, my beloved Chinese Crested who is also on this website, bonded into an inseparable pair. He was her "brother", her playmate, her guardian, and her best friend. She was devastated when I lost Henry in 2015, but fortunately found a new friend in Gromit, another Chinese Crested who I adopted five months after Henry's passing. Daphne was a wonderful companion who shared thirteen wonderful years of her life with me. When she became gravely ill, I allowed her to fly free over to the other side of The Bridge, where she, Henry, and many other beloved pets wait patiently for me to join them. I love you, Daphne. You will never be forgotten.
