Zoey Mojo Daisy Mabry died peacefully at the age of 12 and a half on June 21, 2021 surrounded by her loves.
Zoey, Zoey Girl or Zoey Mojo was born on November 8, 2008 in Woolwine, VA & adopted by her loving parents Perry & Diane.
The car ride from Woolwine to Salem VA was one of an adventure for Perry & Brother Jordon who were trying to surprise the rest of the family with this Golden Girl for Christmas 2008. Through the twists & turns of the country roads little Zoey got a little car sick & had a bit of nervous belly. Finally, the ride was finished & Perry & Jordon continued their plans to surprise the rest of the family. While trying to keep Zoey contained in one room Perry & Jordon had to frantically pick up her poos & spray Febreeze so that no one coming in the house would suspect her presence. It was with excitement that the rest of the family Mom Diane, Brothers Jacob & Luke finally got to meet this girl Christmas Eve 2008 & the next 12 and a half years of adventures would begin. Her name was chosen by the entire family Zoey (Perry suggested) Mojo (meaning good luck or charm) & Daisy (for her beautiful Furry Mom & by the way her handsome Furry Dads name was Duke).
Zoey was a quick leaner of all things. Sit, stay, high fives, speak & later could open doors & was an expert at sniffing out any treat or person in a game of hide & seek. While smart & sweet she could be quite the destroyer of rugs, carpet, shoes, moms’ clothes & would happily steal a stray sock at any time. She also loved treating her human brothers like her litter mates giving them puppy bites until they sometimes left the room not anxious to get back. With much patience from her family she outgrew this & It doesn’t hurt that our family had three young boys that played ball with her the field behind our house relentlessly & wore her out daily.
Zoey loved playing fetch although after a few throws she did not want to give up her beloved tennis balls instead running from all & acting like she would give it to you until the very last second & then take off running again. She also was proud that she kept our backyard clear of all squirrels & birds chasing them down anytime they dared to enter her territory. Although she chased many in her life, she never caught one.
Zoey’s favorite things to do were walks, hikes, playing with her stuffies, & “growling & “biting” her Dads feet. Zoey loved to lay on the couch but was not much on sharing it with anyone else. Another favorite thing were the car rides with her Dad. Again, not much on sharing the arm rest she would pretty much take over the passenger seat & lean into the driver’s seat. The days she would go to Suntrust with him she almost always got a little itty bitty bone that I am sure she thought was a crumb but would sit patiently drooling waiting for the teller to give it to her. Zoey loved to play with her dad, she would take her rear end & hit his foot until he said something & then she would grab a stuffy & it was on. Playful growls & bites, she always won that battle. She loved belly rubs, chin scratches & face rubs. She absolutely hated her paws being touched but would tolerate it by her beloved groomers & great friends Nicolette & Justin at The Temple of the Dog.
Zoey took many trips with Dad & Mom. She loved an adventure. Most of her trips were to Carolina Beach, NC. Zoey loved staying in different houses & condos not paying attention to the word NO do not get on the furniture, sorry this is Zoey’s place & she is going to be comfortable. She loved chasing the little birds & sniffing for all the good stuff along the shore. Zoey never wanted to go too far in the ocean, she was very content to sit & watch the waves go by. Zoey, Dad & Mom watched many sunrises & sunsets there & she was so very content to sit in between them & enjoy life.
By far Zoey’s favorite part of life was going to Green Hill Park. She has been going there since she was a pup. When she was a young girl, she & mom would walk & hike the little trails along the river & on the mountain. The older she got the shorter the walks were, but she would still sit & people watch. Young Zoey & her mom walked & hiked many a beautiful trail in VA, Mcafee Knob & Dragons Tooth were the absolute best. Every day since her mom started working from home (over a year ago) Zoey walked sniffed, did her biz, pretended to do her biz & then she & mom sat & enjoyed life. Every single day someone would walk by & say hey sweet girl & she always gave them a smile & a wink. Sometimes she would get a head scratch, or someone would stop & talk. No matter how long the park time was it was never enough for sweet Zoey.
Zoey was the Sheldon of the house. Ever since she was a young pup you would have to say exactly three times: Zoey do you need to go out? (no reaction) Zoey do you need to go out? (no reaction) Zoey do you need to go outside?? Ok here comes Zoey. Let’s include the fact it is 5 o’clock somewhere. Zoey’s dinner time was 5, period. She would sit next to her bowls waiting if we didn’t give it to her right on time there was always a like clink on the food bowl. After she ate she always took her bowl hit it against the cabinet & we all said dinner! Then of course her after eating ritual in which you should not be in the room nor watch (but we always did). Eat her dinner, drink water, run into the living room, rub up against the love seat, fall into the floor, roll around & then with all four paws in the air she would do the bicycle. Once done shake it off & then flop in the floor ready for her people to come & give her rubs.
Zoey kept a puppy like personality her entire life. Though well behaved she loved to play & be goofy, if you were lying in the floor, she would act like she wasn’t paying attention & then without warning she would give you a sloppy kiss & bop you with her wet nose.
Zoey never met a person that she did not immediately love. She of course thought anyone entering our home were there to visit her & only her. In her younger years she would gladly bring you a wet, stinky stuffy that she had been chewing on, jump on the couch or chair beside you & expect some rubs & yeah sometimes some sloppy kisses. In her older years she wouldn’t bring you anything, but she did expect rubs & hugs & although her jumping days had long since passed, she didn’t mind sitting on your feet so you couldn’t get away quick
Zoey had many, many special friends. Some who have known her since she was a tiny pup that still had a black nose & others who never met her but saw all her adventures & pics on her Moms FB page.
The cabinet that holds the peanut butter & Ritz crackers will never be openedhe peanut butter jar lid was being twisted off.
Zoey will be greatly missed by many. None more than her loving family Perry, Diane, Jacob & his wife Sarah, Jordon & Luke.
We should all live our life like Zoey Mojo. Excited to see the sun come up every morning with a big smile on her face, tail wagging, giving hugs & loves to all she knows. Zoey was filled with pure love & joy everywhere she went. Life will never, ever be the same without our sweet Zoey Mojo.
At the wishes of Zoey’s family, please give your pet extra hugs, belly rubs, kisses & treats & please go outside & enjoy a beautiful sunset.
