Nickname: The Spudster, Spudman, Spuds

Spuddy as a pup showed up one day in the next door yard to me when I rented a house with my then boyfriend in a so-so neighborhood. The next door folks were into something, but what it was I do not know (they're house was once raided by the ATF). They kept a rottweiler that was not fed well and lived outside, sometimes in very cold whether. Well one day this cute white pup with black spots showed up and sat by the fence once he figured out I fed the Rot. They used to tie him up in the hot summer sun without any shade or water and never enough food to eat. He had fur missing on the top of his cute head, from what I do not know, but one day he chewed himself free, broke out of the yard and came straight to me in my yard. I fed him, cleaned him up & took him to the next door house. A lady came to the door & I offered to buy him - she said she was dogsitting it and couldn't. But, 10 minutes later she was on my porch with the dog and gave him to me saying he would have a much better life with me, she would say he just ran off. So it was. I took him in and he climbed up on one of my living room chairs and just slept all evening until the next morning.

His head eventually healed up, he put on weight and filled out into a beautiful dog. He also was the most grateful, friendly and easygoing dog I have ever known - I have never once seen him snarl or growl his entire life. He loved attention, going for rides and to Hines Park and just hanging out with me no matter what I was doing. He would stand between the front seats of my car and watch out the front where we were traveling - if I put my head next to him or petted him, he would always lick my face. What more could you ask for? He always listened to me no matter what, and never once took off on me. I have never had a dog like this one ever, just so special.

I was lucky to have him for so long, I know. But since I had him put to sleep it has been so painful to start each day without him or to go in my yard and not see him there. I have been saddened by the loss of other dogs, but this one it seems has been the hardest of all. He was truly a magnificent dog, everyone liked him, and he was truly my best friend of 15 years. It seems that I loved this dog more than even I knew. I still have my other dog Bandit, and I think he misses him too, but it is just is not the same without my dog Spuddy.
